Grade 6

Study Skills

The students will study various learning styles to become effective. They will learn to set goals and use their time wisely. Most importantly, the course will provide instructional strategies to enhance their ability to learn independently. This course is mandatory for all sixth graders.

Creative Writing

This class covers the fundamentals of writing using journals, poetry, short stories, and personal narratives. Students learn about paragraph structure, descriptive words, and setting.

Grade 7

Persuasive Writing

This class utilizes an intensive approach to learning to write persuasively. All 7th graders are required to take this class. Students engage in skills related to outlining, writing and revising. A final product is required. Along with essays, students learn about other areas where persuasion is used including advertising and travel brochures.

Grade 8

Research Writing

This class builds on sharpening writing skills learned from the seventh grade writing program. Students will be required to do extensive research to include study of the topic, note taking, and editing. Each student will learn how to successfully evaluate internet resources. Traditional methods of research will be incorporated.
