Parents are required to grant permission for students
to access the Internet; a form is included in
the Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School Parent
Handbook. The Diocese has protected access to
the Internet and access is monitored.
Grade 6
Computer
Students review word processing
and keyboarding skills. Database, spreadsheet, and telecommunication
applications
are introduced during the quarter. Class projects are
utilized for exploring and introducing multimedia and
also for Internet related activities. This class is
mandatory for all sixth graders.
Grade 7
Computer
Students work on word processing
and desktop publishing activities. Spreadsheet applications
are utilized to
analyze and graph data. Databases are explored and
students work on Internet related projects. This class
is mandatory
for all 7th graders. An elective in Keyboarding and
Introduction to Business is also available for students
in seventh
grade.
Keyboarding I
This class will focus on basic
skills and correct hand placement needed for using the
keyboard with speed and accuracy, correct punctuation,
capitalization,
and proofreading skills.
Introduction to Business
This class will provide students
with an overview of the world of business. Students will
become familiar with topics such as supply and demand,
competition,
profit, money, supply and pricing. They will be able to create and apply
business planning tolls such as Mission Statements, Business Plans, Marketing
Plans, and Strategic Plans.
Grade 8
Computer
The computer class will focus
on developing advanced skills needed to produce Microsoft
Office documents. More emphasis
is placed on multimedia presentation, web creation,
and internet research. Other electives include: Web Design,
Advanced Web Design, Multimedia/Internet, Keyboarding
II, Desktop Publishing, and Finance.
Web Design
This class will focus on creating
editing, and producing web pages utilizing MS Word, Font
Page, and HTML. Interactive pages will include animation,
video,
music, and film clips. Writing HTML is introduced.
Keyboarding II
This class will focus on increasing
speed and accuracy at the keyboard. You will learn to create
and edit great looking papers for classes by learning
advanced work processing skills.
Desktop Publishing
This class will focus on designing
and publishing brochures, newsletters, and flyers. The
class will work with both
graphics and text, and utilize the internet.
Multimedia/Internet
This class will focus on learning
and developing presentation skills for use in the classroom.
Microsoft Office 2003 is used for this class.
Finance
This class will focus on preparing
students to make sound financial decisions now and in the
future. The class will familiarize students with concepts
including
work, saving, investing, and planning. Students will create household budgets,
learn to balance a checkbook, prepare a resume, evaluate credit cards, and
develop savings plans for large purchases.
Marketing
This class will introduce students
to the activities involved in producing and selling products
for businesses. This
will include the creativity and promotional skills
that are needed to promote and advertise the products.
