Students in Grade 6 are required
to take two quarters of Foreign Language (either Spanish
or French), two quarters of Physical Education, and one
quarter of Computer, Study Skills, and Music. Band students
are not required to take Music. Electives include Art,
Creative Writing and Band.

Religion - Our Response to God’s Gifts
This is an age appropriate overview
of the Old Testament and an introduction to the New Testament
using multiple learning styles. Students are exposed to
the Catholic tradition of Holy Scripture with a strong
emphasis on the stories of the Old Testament as heralding
the coming of the Messiah in the person of Jesus Christ.
The Liturgical seasons of Advent/Epiphany, Lent and Easter
are accommodated within the course throughout the academic
year. Duration: one academic year. A mandatory diocesan
AIDS curriculum is included. Additional emphasis will be
placed on the study of the rosary.
All grades will participate in grade appropriate service projects during the
course of the year.

English -
This course provides (1) an introduction to reading and writing by using grammar
as a base, and (2) an introduction to literature which
includes fiction, non-fiction, short stories, poetry, and
novels. Students will complete Course I in vocabulary study.
Writing styles will be developed with appropriate projects
and assignments.

Science -
The focus of 6th grade is
earth science. The Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School
science curriculum
incorporates
specific
content areas for each grade level. Our curriculum supports
the sequence and prepares them to schedule Biology as
a ninth grader. Teachers incorporate the scientific method
with hands on activities including laboratory experiments.

Social Studies -
The focus is Europe, Russia and Latin America Geography, culture, religions,
history, global involvements, and current events are issues
included in the course of study.
Multicultural understanding and issues of peace and justice are also stressed
through-out the curriculum. Field trips and projects,
both individual and group, guest speakers, and events
are added elements of the curriculum.

Mathematics -
A continued effort to enforce arithmetic skills as key concepts of algebra and
geometry are introduced. The idea of positive and negative
numbers is explored. Place value and number sense concepts
are enhanced. Manipulatives are used to model new mathematics
concepts while repetition and practice are used to ensure
proficiency in topics such as operations on whole numbers,
fractions, and decimals. The current textbook and workbook
is Glencoe – Course I.
